Los Cabos has become a true national and international stage for gastronomy. Once again, we have received the most important global awards that highlight the quality of this destination’s gastronomy.
This year, three new distinctions have been added to the second edition of the Michelin Guide Mexico, bringing the total number of recognized restaurants in the Baja California Sur region to 21 between 2024 and 2025.
Experience the beauty of rural tourism in Baja California Sur, where culture, nature, and tradition come together.
As a reminder, the Michelin distinctions include the following categories:
- One Michelin Star: High-level cuisine worth a stop.
- Green Michelin Star: Exemplary commitment to sustainability.
- Bib Gourmand: Excellent value for money.
Michelin Recommendation: Cuisine of outstanding quality.
These awards were born at the beginning of the 20th century, driven by the need to find places that provide good service, highlighting friendliness, comfort, but above all, the pleasure of enjoying and tasting excellent flavors.
The Michelin brothers, creators of these awards, had a fundamental and much-needed idea: to create a guide that would help travelers find places and enjoy a good culinary and hospitality experience.
For many years, these guides were distributed free of charge until one day, André Michelin discovered they were being misused in a workshop.
From then on, and with the premise that “a man gets what he pays for,” new guides began to be launched, priced at 7 francs. Little by little, hotels and restaurants began to categorize themselves. Interest in this type of information grew, and it was then that the Michelin brothers began recruiting a team of mysterious diners to visit all the restaurants and award them stars.
Over the years, the Michelin Guide gained incredible acceptance and evolved into what we know today as the “Michelin Stars.” Today, these stars are a worldwide rating system that recognizes the best restaurants and hotels that stand out for the services they offer.
We must remember that there are five historical standards that experts use when selecting the winners in the different categories:
1. Quality of ingredients.
2. Harmony of flavors.
3. Mastery of culinary techniques.
4. The chef’s voice and personality are reflected in the cuisine.
5. Consistency between visits and the menu (each restaurant is inspected several times a year).
In this latest distinction, in 2025, three Best Casual and Hotel Restaurants in Cabo San Lucas were added to its list of recommendations.
Mezcal at Montage, renowned for its contemporary Mexican haute cuisine, and Al Pairo at Solaz, specializing in seafood and innovative creations. In San José del Cabo, the Limo Heritage Kitchen restaurant at Suelo Sur – was recognized for offering a cutting-edge farm-to-table experience with an open-fire kitchen.
If you enjoy good food and are visiting Los Cabos, or if you are a resident and want to learn more about Southern California cuisine, the Michelin Guide offers you the opportunity to experience unique and extraordinary culinary experiences.
Let’s celebrate being present in a destination that has it all, above all, excellent service. The mere fact of having so many restaurants awarded this prize places us in a significant position, both nationally and internationally, in terms of quality.
